  1. They might have thought you were amending to get the a stimulus check based on ss income.  Sign the form and send it back  You could enclose a copy of the letter with it, and write "none" next to that comment.  Are you sure that wasn't just one of the options listed on the letter, and the box in front of it wasn't checked?  If that's the case, it doesn't even apply to you.

  2. probably the social security wages or taxes you "paid" (not received) shown on your W-2

  3. Are you sure they weren't asking for a social security NUMBER?

Otherwise, I cannot understand what your question is.

  4. There is no place on the second page of a 1040X for for the Social Security "amount".  They likely wanted you to put your Social Security Number on the second page of the form.  There is no place for that either but it is normally written along the top of the form along with the name of the primary tax payer.

  5. Ask them?!?!? I've found them mostly agreeable to work with, and polite if you treat them politely. Either call the 800 number or call your local IRS office.

  6. There is no where on page 2 to put a social security amount.  I believe that they probably mean "put your social security number" at the top of page two.  This sometimes facilitates them getting page two back with page one if somehow they should become separated.

Most income tax programs put the taxpayer's social security number on each page of a return for that reason.

In any case, I would sign it, put your social security number on the top of page two, and return in the envelope.

  7. I would hazard that 90% of the 1040x forms are people trying to qualify for the ESP by adding in SS/RR/VA benefits or combat zone pay.  Thus, they may think that you were one of them.   (If you were trying to qualify by adding in wages, you are out of luck.)

If you told us *why* you are amending, it would be easier to advise you.  Did your 1040X have ANYTHING in column B on the front???
