Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi is ‘fit’ and ready to start for the club when the new Premier League season starts.
The Nigerian born striker has been with the club since the start of his football career. He joined the Magpies in 1995 and progressed through the youth set up. He made his debut in the reserves in 1998 against rivals Sunderland and made his first team debut
two years later.
The 30-year old enjoys cult status with the club and is a favourite among the Tyneside locals. Ameobi has made 333 appearances in the black and white jersey and has scored 72 goals for the club he plays for and grew up supporting as a child.
The striker has said that he is as fit as he has ever been in his career and is ready to lead the team at the front. Ameobi has informed Pardew that he wishes to lead the line against Tottenham in the Magpies' Premier League opener at the Sports Direct Arena.
Despite the additions of strikers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 and Papiss Demba Cisse, Ameobi is confident of his first team prospects. The player was primarily used as a substitute last season due to the form of both Senegalese strikers, and made only nine starts in all competitions.

Speaking to the English press, the player said:
"This is the fittest I've ever been at any stage in my career at this point. I have to up the ante now with the likes of the players at the club."
The striker stood out in Newcastle’s 5-1 thrashing of Hartlepool this past week. Ameobi claimed the opening goal and rounded off his performance with two assists. Speaking about the game and the performances of all the other players, he added:
"I want to be in that starting line-up come the first game of the season. You have to show the manager in these games that you're ready to go."
"It's great for the squad to know that the guys who've come in tonight have really upped their game and showed the manager that they're ready to go."
