Newcastle United’s striker, Shola Ameobi believes that it is essential that the Magpies book their place in the Europa League next season.
However, he conceded that his side will aim to finish ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, in the Premier League table.
Currently, the Magpies are sitting in the fifth spot and lead the Blues by 2 points, with five more games to play. They are tied with the fourth placed Spurs on 59 points, with Harry Redknapp’s side ahead of them in the table, on the virtue of a better goal
difference.
The 30 year old admitted that his side have got a good chance of making it into the top European competition next season. However, he wants his side to go all out in their remaining matches, in order to secure a place in the Europa League, and grab any ‘bonus’
that comes along the way.
Ameobi said, while talking to reporters, “We’ve got no pressure on ourselves. We want to play in Europe. That’s what we want – European football. People talk about the Champions League, but let’s focus on the next game, and making sure we stay in a European
spot.”
The Nigerian International has been around at Newcastle, for more than ten years. During this period, he has made 329 appearances for the Toon and scored 72 goals.
