Question:

America...great or hypocritical?

I recently read a great book that gave a lot of insight into the way things are in American Government. It was written by a CIA analyst that spent many years in the military and then for the CIA as someone who goes to anopther country and sums up what to do when American GI's committ crimes in other nations. The book is called the "sorrows of empire", it opened my mind to a lot of things.

In this book it explains that the US has been lying to it's citizens for a very long time. The reason why though is what is the problem. Everyone expects the government to hide things. For national security right? What is being hidden though is a point of concern for me.

What it explains is that during the Cold war, America built an empire. This empire was built out of fear that the communist empire would soon envelope the world and pose serious risks to America itself. Our answer was to put military bases in strategic positions around the world to maintain control "by military force" so that it cannot become communist.

Once russia fell though, these bases which were now pointless since communism was not a risk to US sovereignty, were not closed down. They remain to this day. The reason is that many of the bases are a huge portion of profits for independant contractors. They did not want to give up control.

Today most of these independant contractors have high positions in the US government and military. (ie. cheney and haliburton, or Rumsfeld in the pentagon)

Since the cold war, when the US wanted a territory of another country, they sent in the CIA to cause a civil war, or a religious "cleansing". Once it got bad enough there, the US media was told to cover certain stories within certain countries to get public support to invade and "bring about civil order". Whenever we invaded a "third world country" as a "humanitarian" approach, it was just a ploy by those in high positions, to futhere the American Empire.

As of late though, the mood of Americans is that "we do not need to police the world, let's worry about America." Though these 'elites in the independant contractor companies did not want this, so they staged the "war on terror", to reunite the American public into being ok with basically declaring war anywhere in the world that these peolpe wanted. Since then we have introduced well over 20 military bases in foreign countries. GWB gave a list of 60 or so countries that we have to "be ready to start a preemptive war with in order to secure America from terrorists". Afgan and Iraq are 2, Iran is 3, do you see where this is going?

So in light of this information that is a fact, not just some ramblings of a former CIA agent. Do you think that this makes America great, or hypocritical? Personally I say hypocrite.

  1. Even with faults, this country is the greatest on the planet at this time.  Would you rather live elsewhere?  Why do foreigners come here illegally by the millions of we weren't so desirable.  How many US citizens move illegally into other countries each year?

  2. I say they are a combination of both - - - Welcome to the human race!

  3. America has always been hypocritical.

  4. I don't want to read that whole thing, I know we are hypocritical.

  5. Efin  GREAT what are you talking about? We the best!

  6. I think we have our problems but my country is still a great country.

I am thankful we have a military backing, and do not begrudge bases.

I do begrudge that America always has to solve other countries problems. If more countries would join forces we could solve a lot more (terrorism for instance)...I do tire of this but it seems that the world expects that America will "protect them"....however, I don't feel we just go to WAR for the h**l of it. We will see some strong terrorist acts again when Bush leaves office - they are just waiting for the new president to take over - who ever that may be.

  7. I think America is great AND hypocritical. They're not mutually exclusive. We're all hypocritical, whether as individuals, organisations or states. No exception. There is not one person (especially in the developed world) who has not engaged in an act of hypocrisy.
