  1. IN SNAKE INFESTED AREAS

  2. Not really.  There are places in the States that seem to have more than their share.  However, remember that snakes are more afraid of you-- than you are of them.  They have excellent hearing and will avoid you if at all possible.  I've only seen a few snakes in over 60 years all around the country.  So don't be afraid.  Enjoy yourself while here.

    Good luck

  3. Snakes live everywhere. They come up through our toilets. Strangle our children/pets and eat them at night. Don't come here. The snakes will be more attracted to your scent.

  4. I live in one of the northern states, so any snakes we see are small garden snakes.

The southwestern states such as Arizona, New Mexico, areas of Texas, and even Florida have bigger snakes.

I saw a lot of big snakes in Arizona......rattlesnakes.

Overall, the southwestern states have the most snakes because of the desert arid climate and landscapes.

  5. With the exception of Alaska (and I am not positive about that), every state has snakes of some sort and it would be safe to say over 90% are ground dwellers.

While a lot are venomous, probably the majority are non-venomous and useful for keeping the rodent population down. In the southern states I would say there are more venomous snakes because of the warm temperatures and easy access to cover and water sources.

  6. No, not many. I've seen a fair few lizards whilst there, but only grass snakes in bushes and things, and not thousands.

Long grass and areas they wont necessarily be disturbed i'd imagine.

  7. We have our share depending on where you go. It is a big place after all.

  8. Mid-west / plains will have a few harmless (insect eating) garter snakes in areas with tall untouched grassy areas.

Wooded areas such as Missouri have poisonous Copperheads.  These are more aggressive.

Rocky/areas such as Wyoming, Colorado, or rocky/forestry areas like Black Hills in South Dakota have poisonous Rattlesnakes - - these prefer to avoid people if possible.

Florida and wetland areas similar to wetland reserves will have water snakes.  Some poisonous & some not.

Wooded, hilly such as Wisconsin may also have Blue Racers, Milk Snakes, King Snakes, etc..  These are not harmful to humans and rarely see one unless dead on a winding road as 'road kill'.  But still have to make noise when walking to you don't 'surprise' a rattlesnake - - they would be gone before you got to where they use to be if hear you coming.

Basic towns/cities have few to none of snakes.  But those prone to the specific area occassionally get in town.
