Question:

American Adoption?

So, I was wondering if anyone out there knew specific regulations for Americans to adopt American babies. I know in China you have to have a certain BMI and in such and such a place you have to have this other requirement.

Any clues?

  1. With a baby mainly age, and health should play a major part in America adoptions.

  2. Adoption laws and requirements vary by state and even then, there is some variation between different agencies.  I don't think BMI has much to do with it in America.  You really need to talk to at least one agency in your state to get a better idea.

  3. If you go through an agency, they all differ from one to another. They do all require a homestudy, which is pretty much just making sure you have a safe home, and the type of personality you have and such. Some agencies do require you to be a certain age, only because they think this age is what is needed for the maturity level of being an adoptive parent. If you go straight through the birthmother, most of the time it is just attorney expenses. If you go through an agency, it is much more expensive. I know for China, though to adopt from there, you do need to be a minium age of 30. But it could of changed. I read up on that about a year ago.

  4. We live in Texas.  When we adopted our baby, nobody checked our BMI's, but anyone looking at us can tell our BMI's aren't an issue.

The first thing they did was a criminal check on both of us.

They did a thorough home study, which included an inspection of our home (mostly for saftey issues, and making sure we had a suitable bedroom for the baby), also we had to provide several references, and they did a financial stability check.
