Question:

American Airlines Baggage Fee?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I know that American Airlines is introducing a $15 baggage fee. It says that if you purchased tickets or are flying before June 15 you are exempt from the fee. I'm flying in July, but I purchased my tickets about 2 weeks ago. I'm assuming I don't have to pay the fee, correct?

Thanks and I appreciate any help I can get.

  1. Hi, you are exempt if you bought your ticket already...and if you are flying to a destination outside the US, check the American website - there are different (better) rules!

    From the American website:

    http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?p=/u...

For flights within the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and between the United States/U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada the following fees apply:

    May 12 - June 14, 2008

Customers who purchase domestic economy class tickets May 12 - June 14, 2008, may check one bag for free and check a second bag for $25 each way.

    June 15, 2008

Customers who purchase domestic economy class tickets on or after June 15, 2008, will be charged $15 each way for the first checked bag and $25 each way for the second checked bag.

  2. Call to confirm. Otherwise you might be in for a surprise at the airport. Delta pulled some similar garbage and nobody in customer service knew the right answer. I got different answers from different people. But finally when we came to the airport, we pleaded our case and they waived the fee.

  3. Well, im going on American this upcoming week. I'm pretty sure i'm NOT paying a baggage fee because i bought my ticket on Jun 1st. When i come back, i'll try to write what happened
