  1. I work for an airline, though not American.  Nothing is more irritating than a passenger who hasn't the foggiest clue of what flight they are on.  We have a zillion flights a day and a hundred passengers with your last name.  PLEASE learn your PNR/confirmation number (as another answer stated they are the same), or at least your flight number.  I haven't got all day.

  2. yes you can  use ID or passport

The airline stores your reservation details in their computer systems.

At check-in, passengers can present a valid ID such as a passport, an ID card, driver's license or credit card. Passengers should always be provided with an itinerary receipt.

  3. yes, e-tickets are soo great for that reason! u only need your name and ID and u are set. and lots of times u only need your id @ security... if u use the electronic ticket kiosk for check in, u dont even need to talk to an agent because it prints the ticket right there.  u can pull up by your last name or the flight # or destination city usually.

  4. they can find your reservation with your last name as well

who made your reservation did you get any numbers?

it might be called a PNR or reservation number which is

same thing as a confirmation  number
