American Catherine Matranga set to face rivals at Capital Hills this week

Catherine Matranga of the United States knows how to take the pressure on the course, and this is what she is set to prove at the impending Credit Union Challenge, scheduled to start from August 3-5, at Capital
Hills, Albany.
Although the roster at the Credit Union Challenge, a Symetra Tour event, is pretty strong due to the participation of its defending champion American Sydnee Michaels and other key contenders, Matranga is determined
to prove her worth this time and win her LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour card.
Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Matranga is a rising star on the Symetra Tour, and boasts a shining profile. She participated in five events last season, but unfortunately, could not record a win. Her game
has been a bit affected by some putting issues, which hampered her from clinching a victory last year.
Her best finish in the year 2011 was tie 63 — something not very commendable. However, the American star appears keen to move ahead this season.
In order to win the Credit Union Challenge and her much-wanted LPGA Tour card, Matranga will have to outperform players like Sydnee Michaels and the last year’s runner-up Jessi Gebhardt.
Analysts said that the field has plenty of talented players, but Michaels has overshadowed the entire roster. Now a permanent LPGA member, the star golfer is full of confidence and has vowed that defending
her title is her biggest goal this month.
Since Michaels did not take part in the last week’s Evian Masters 2012, she desperately wants be in action once again and put her skills to the test. Sharing her thoughts about the upcoming battle at Capital
Hills, the LPGA titan said that she is glad she is going to get another chance to prove her worth on the Symetra Tour.
She said that the last year was very momentous for her, as she won her LPGA Tour card after beating her nearest rival Gebhardt at the same course.
“Everything about that tournament was pretty awesome — the whole card ceremony, looking at the leaderboard on the 18th green and seeing that I won. It was just a special week for me, that's for sure," the defending
champion said.
