Adams Morgan is quite the diverse neighborhood, so "American" options are limited unless you go to a bar-type place.  There is a diner (called The Diner) two doors down from Tryst (a coffeehouse).  Asylum, a biker-bar type place has basic bar food.  There's a top-your-own-hot-dog place called M'Dawg near the Falafelshop.  Look, if you walk up and down 18th Street NW, you will see more restaurants and bars than you can shake a freaking stick at.

There are a lot of places and a lot of ethnic, Madame's Organ is burger.  The Reef is a good seafood place and Tryst is a little more progressive.  Lots of places so have fun!  Here is a list of all the restaurants in Adam's Morgan.
