American Eagles in a good shape to start the 2012 season – Volleyball News
American University women’s volleyball team, which is commonly regarded as the Eagles, is scheduled to open the 2012 season on Friday, August 24.
According to the recently announced plan, the Eagles will appear in a total of four regular season tournaments and three NCAA Tournament qualifiers during the 2012 season. The Americans will take a start at home against Georgetown. The home opener is likely
to attract a record number of fans. Last year, around 2,122 spectators showed up to watch the Eagles perform at Bender Blue Out, DC Volleyball Challenge Cup.
Following the home opener, the Eagles will take part in the Yale Classic from August 31 to September 1. Eagles will contest their skills with teams such as Stony Brook, Texas A&M, and hosts Yale. The Yale Classic will be followed by Spartan-Aggie Invitational,
which will cover its run from Sept. 7-8. Next up, the American Eagles will take road to play at the Wildcat Classic from Sept. 14-15.
After playing three tournaments away from home, the Eagles will host Coppin State on September 19. The Bender Arena will set up the field of play for the match. Later on, the American team will enter the Patriot League Championship as the defending champions.
The team mentored by Head Coach Barry Goldberg is ready to fight the challenges in the 2012 season. Currently, the team is undergoing extensive training and practice, in order to get ready for the action.
In the wake of 2012 season, American University volleyball programme has also hired a new assistant coach in the form of Sarah Bernson, who has a wealth of experience. She has been coaching volleyball for over 12 years and Eagles will get great benefits
from her experience.
In this connection, Head Volleyball Coach of the Eagles Goldberg said: "We are very pleased to have Sarah join our staff. Her head coaching experience is a huge asset to our program and we are excited about the contributions she will make in the coming season."
Quite recently, the Eagles became one of 20 Division I teams to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award. The American Volleyball Coaches Association took the pleasure to announce the American University women’s volleyball team for this honour for 10th
time in the history of the programme. In addition to the Eagles, Lafayette Leopards was the only Patriot League School to claim the AVCA's recognition.
Eagles finished the last season with 23-11 record. They played 14 conference matches and clinched success in 13, which is pretty impressive. This year, the Eagles are determined to further improve their winning ratio.
