  1. Impeachment is the formal removal of a high ranking gov't official from office.

The case is heard by an appointed prosecutor.  He is appointed by a Senate Judiciary Committee and by the Attorney General.  The case is presented to the House, who hears the case.  The House votes first, then if found guilty it moves on to the Senate.

Oddly, no presidents have been formally impeached.  President Johnson was impeached by the House, but the Senate came up a vote short.

Same with Bill Clinton.  Impeached by the House, but not the Senate.

Nixon was not impeached.  The Senate passed the impeachment, but Nixon retired before the house could vote.

  2. 1) to formally charge a public official with wrongdoing

2)The House of Reps brings up the charges and the Senate hears the case

    3) 2-Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton

    4) None

  3. What is impeachment?  It is the process by which a politician is formally charged with the crime of stealing peaches.

Who brings up the charges and who hears the case?  The Federal Bureau of Peaches, Apricots and Other Fuzzy Fruits (I'm Talking to YOU Clay Aikin!)

How many presidents have been impeached and who are they? Two... Johnson and Clinton.  Not sure how Jimmy Carter avoided it, considering he was from Georgia and loved peaches.  Perhaps he used the peanut defense.

How many presidents have been removed from office and who are they?  All of them, except George W. Bush have been removed from office by death, not being reelected, resignation or otherwise.  George will be removed from office in January.

Good luck on your summer school homework!
