American Jackie Barenborg can trouble rivals at Capital Hills
American Jackie Barenborg, who finished tied for the fourth position at the Credit Union Challenge last year, is confirmed to participate in the current edition of the tournament, set to begin this Friday at
Capital Hills, Albany.
Barenborg is a rising star on the Symetra Tour, formerly LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Future Tour, and has been struggling to prove her mettle.
Last year, the American star looked determined to do her best at the tournament, as she came close to beating her nearest rivals on the leaderboard. However, a couple of mistakes on some holes stopped her from
advancing.
Barenborg kicked off the opening round of the Credit Union Challenge, formerly Price Chopper Tour Championship, in grand style. She got off to a solid start as she posted a 66 on the first day. Although the
field featured several competent players, most of the contenders did not face any trouble posting good scores.
The American star amazed her fans and the spectators once again after she registered a 67 in the second round. Other contenders who gave Barenborg a tough time included American Sydnee Michaels, whose score
was well enough to help her surge past all her rivals, and Jessi Gebhardt of the United States, who finished second after posting an overall 203 on the leaderboard.
Thanks to her solid score in the first two rounds, the Vero Beach native had managed to consolidate her position on the leaderboard. However, the third round did not prove that lucky for Barenborg, as she marred
her hard-earned position by carding a 73.
The current edition of the Credit Union Challenge is going to stage a tough battle among key players. The defending champion Michaels has vowed to repeat her last-year performance at Capital Hills.
"It's tough out there," Michaels said. "It's a grind. The hardest part is that I don't know the golf courses as well as everyone else does. It's a little different playing four days instead of three days. It's
a bigger stage, a bigger venue, but I'm learning every week.
“I've had a few good weeks, I've had a few off weeks. I'm hoping that I do what I did last year coming down the stretch and maybe start to hit my stride In the later part of the season. I'm really enjoying
it. I'm having a blast out there”.
