American LPGA stars ready for crowd fervour at Kingsmill
When American contenders set foot on the Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia, on September 6 to tee off at the Kingsmill Championship 2012, they will not only have to keep an eye on Asian rivals, but will
also pay attention to crowd fervour.
American Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars that also include the defending champion Cristie Kerr will be teeing off in plenty of volume from the local spectators.
Commentators said that since the event is being staged in the United States, crowd fervour is impressive and the local fans desperately want to see their favourite stars in action.
Kerr, whose American team-mate Stacy Lewis is among her main rivals, won the 2009 edition of the tournament in grand style and is determined to prove her mettle once again. But what is keeping her motivated
is the belief to compete on her home soil and she thinks it will work to her advantage.
Kerr is not the only American contender set to grace the event, stars like Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis and Michelle Wie will be among the rich field.
Commentators pointed out that the American squad is pretty solid, which will help the national players to put maximum pressure on their Asian rivals. Stacy Lewis, who is performing well in the current season,
will be the main attraction at Virginia. Lewis has recently grabbed the second spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings — a feat that has helped her make a name for herself on the LPGA Tour.
Although Lewis may not find it easy to beat Asian rivals, she has repeatedly vowed to grab more victories in the current season.
On the other hand, Kerr also ranks among the hot favourite contenders for the title at Kingsmill Championship 2012. Kerr performed well at the Safeway Classic 2012 held a week before the CN Canadian Women’s
Open 2012. She posted an overall score of 206 to finish tied for fourth.
“I played really well. It's probably the best opening round I've had all year. I just got off to a good start. I birdied the first two holes and birdied the 13th hole. I started on the back. It's 3‑under
after 4, and just played the tough holes really well on the end part of the back,” Kerr said at the end of the first round.
