American Moira Dunn performs well at Vancouver
American Moira Dunn was not regarded as the favourite contender for the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, but she performed well at the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament, finishing tied for
the 11th position on the leaderboard, along with three other contenders.
Most of the contenders, who stand at top positions in the Women’s World Golf Rankings and were expected to do their best at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, could not exhibit a better performance as most
of them finished outside the top 10.
However, lesser-known players like amateur Lydia Ko of New Zealand and Chella Choi of South Korea, proved their mettle and capitalised on the support given by the spectators at the Vancouver Golf Club, Canada.
Dunn shot an overall 284 — a score good enough to keep her in contention throughout the four days. Although the American star faced a little difficulty playing in rainy conditions as the wind troubled most
of the contenders in the roster, her near-perfect putting and balanced swing helped her play better than her fans had thought.
Dunn got off to a very solid start as she registered a 69 in the opening round. She, however, faltered a little in the next three rounds and slipped to a lower position on the leaderboard.
Commentators said that getting off to a decent start in a roster awash with most of the top-ranked LPGA stars did boost her confidence, but her strokes were not without flaws. The American golfer made errors
on some holes in the third and fourth round, which hampered her from posting a score required to stay ahead of the roster.
Despite finishing outside the top 10, Dunn did not look disappointed as she said during her interview that she was more than happy to record a good finish.
“It wasn't too bad. I didn't play the first 12 really well, but I got out of there with a par and made a putt. Sometimes I think it's making those early putts just to build up your confidence a little bit.
And hit one really close on 4, and made a 15‑footer on 8,” the rising star said.
“So I kind of got going early, and I hit a lot of greens. I hit some, gosh, I think I hit 17 greens today. So I had one three‑putt”.
