American Moms - a quick Q from the UK?

Our friend just went on holiday to the states and offered to do some shopping for our new little man in Baby Gap because of the brilliant exchange rate - we gave her £50 - approx $100 - how much stuff would this buy us in Baby Gap right now roughly?

Thanks

  1. Why, Don't you thrust them ???. If I where your "friend" and read this question I would tell you to get s*****d.

  2. Goodness.  I haven't shopped at the Gap since I've been married, and haven't even thought of buying Baby Gap clothes.

Here's a link to their US site that has some general prices.

    http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?ci...

  3. If shes careful and buys more sale items,  she could get a decent amount of stuff. Probably a good 5 outfits. If you buy the clothes full price though, you probably wont get much. Hopefully she will get good deals!

  4. Hi, i am from the UK but was in the States 2 weeks ago, i bought my son a jacket and 2 pairs of jeans from baby gap and that came to just under $120 all three were full priced, the jacket was almost $50 and the jeans, one pair was just under $30 and the other pair $40 - the sale had lots of half price stuff and if your not going to buy things like jackets then you could get quite a lot, the shirts were around $15 and long sleeve tops were about $10 - $15 but the things like jeans and jackets were between $30 - $70 so really it all depends, in the sale she could get lots, in the full price bit she might only get a couple of pairs of jeans :-)

  5. four to six outfits.  Tell them to look in the clearance section in the back - they could possibly double the number of outfits by just getting them there.  It's not as if baby styles change that much!

  6. Hi, i'm actually from uk but if you go into baby gap store here it's not as expensive as you'd think. Although i have a daughter, all the dresses were under £15. However if you get to know your local baby gap they put stuff in the sale every 6 weeks and if you buy something and it goes into sale within 28 days they give you the difference back if you have your receipt.

  7. I couldnt tell you about that, what I can tell you is that I bought loads of really cute outfits for my 2-month-old baby girl in ASDA when I was living in the uk. they're pretty and cheap. I think is not worth spending a lot of money on fancy baby clothes because (at least in my experience) babies grow out of them in about 3 weeks, maybe a bit longer. I'm living in mexico now, and we have our own ASDA here and I still buy her clothes there. if you want you can give me a bell and I can post you some really nice clothes from here, the exchange rate is even better: 20 pesos to a pound, and one really valuable thing I learned while I was living in the uk was that what you can buy in the uk for a pound you can get here for a peso! email me at wendy@keithdraws.com if you're interested. Good luck! ;)

  8. Depends some items can range up to 20- 30$ US for a shirt, jacket, or pant-suit. Ont = the other hand if theyre reasonable shoppers they can get items on sale. the cheapest shirts that ive bought from baby gap ranged from 1.95$ to 6.99$ so you might get what you bargin for. depending on theyre location

  9. One pair of pants, a button down shirt, a sweater, pair of socks, and a hat. Basically one whole outfit. Maybe shoes.

  10. Baby Gap is pretty fairly priced. I think it should buy a nice amount of things, especially if your friend checks out the sale rack for you.

Did you look at their US website online?

  11. Depends...

Sale rack?  Lots of stuff!  I'd tell them to go to outlet stores if at all possible!

Regular priced items?  Maybe 4-5 outfits.

Check out http://www.gap.com/browse/subDivision.do... for ideas of prices.

Is the exchange rate really 2:1?  Holy c**p, yay American dollar...ugh.

Another great store for them to shop would be Children's Place (outlet stores, again, would be optimal!) or Gymboree.

  12. At the gap a pair of pants on sale is $25 and a dress shirt is $20.  Of course you can always get great sales, but if I were you, I'd go for Carter's brand.  It's way cheaper and really cute.

  13. a good portion of ruby's stuff is baby gap. there is a wide range in pricing of the items. here are some examples -- and i am pretty certain of these prices. i, um, take my shopping seriously :) :

there is a line in baby gap called "brannan's favorites" they are leggings, tee shirts (short and long sleeved),  etc. each item is $12.50 or 2 for $20. not sure if they have this line for boys though.

jeans, khakis, and similar pants run from $18-25

button down shirts run from $12-23

sweaters and jackets run from $16-30

    coats are usually around $30-40

socks are 5 for $10; pajamas are $22 (expensive but great and last forever); sneakers and shoes run from $8-20

    onesies are about $12

in addition, there is always a TON of stuff on the sale rack.

  14. £50 is actually around $90... that will get you MAYBE three outfits if your friend doesn't buy expensive items. Also, depending on where your friend is visiting, you may be able to get some good seasonal items on sale that you would still be able to use in the UK and then you could do pretty well!

Out of curiosity... how much would it buy over there?

  15. OK, I LOVE baby gap....it just depends on what kind of stuff she is getting you.

If she is getting you some basics, light pull on cotton pants w/ shirts, Baby Gap has their "playwear" stuff 2 for $20.00.  That stuff is GREAT!  Washes and wears well.

If she is getting you more dressy things, you can expect khaki and denim type pants for about $20-$30 a pair, and nicer button up shirts about $15-25.

If she is a good shopper, she could probably get you at least 3-6 outfits.
