American Morgan Pressel in Kingsmill Championship 2012 roster
American Morgan Pressel is confirmed to grace the Kingsmill Championship 2012, set to start from September 6-9, at Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia.
According to the officials of the Kingsmill Championship 2012, most of the prominent Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars have confirmed their intention to take part in the much-hyped event, but
the roster is yet to be completed.
Pressel will play among contenders like current world number two Stacy Lewis of the United States, Cristie Kerr who won the last edition of the tournament, Se Ri Pak of South Korea, American Michelle Wie,
Paula Creamer, Brittany Lang, Natalie Gulbis, Lexi Thompson and Juli Inkster.
Analysts said that the field set for the Kingsmill Championship is pretty solid, which will hopefully attract more spectators this year. Most importantly, the tournament is returning to Kingsmill, Virginia,
after a gap of two years.
Officials had to suspend the tournament for two years, from 2010 to 2011, due to issues with its sponsor Anheuser-Busch in the year 2009. The event held in 2009 saw Cristie Kerr grab the title, but players
wondered if the Kingsmill Championship, formerly Michelob Ultra Open, would ever make a comeback after sponsorship issues.
With the new name and a rich field set for this year’s edition, Pressel is definitely feeling a little pressure because the American spectators are waiting for the national players to regain their lost form.
American contenders have been facing trouble getting back on track. Most of the national players who were standing inside the top 50 a few months back, have now been pushed back by their Asian rivals.
Asians, particularly South Koreans have snatched most of spots in the top 100 in the Women’s World Golf Rankings and they seem hard to beat, given their performance in recent events.
Players like Pressel will not find it easy to score well as there will be several Asian contenders putting their skills to the test at Kingsmill next month.
Pressel took part in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, but she could not prove her mettle. She shot an overall score of 150 in the first two rounds, missing the cut.
The first round of the tournament, played at Vancouver Golf Club, saw the American star falter on almost all the holes as she posted an unimpressive 77.
