American Nate Campbell nails Dominican Victor Manuel Cayo by knockout in his hometown – Boxing news
Nate Campbell, the former IBF, WBO, and WBA super world lightweight champion, made an impressive winning comeback after knocking out Victor Manuel Cayo, the former WBA Fedecaribe light welterweight champion, in the ninth round of a 10-round skirmish held
on March 24, 2012.
The event was jointly promoted and organised by Manguita Promotions and Sampson Boxing and the ring for the pay-per-view was stretched at Palacio de Deportes situated in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Nate, 40, was clearly considered as the favourite as far as the stats were concerned but the American was facing Cayo, the man who is considered number two in his home country and was ready to pound Nate in the ring surrounded by his supporters.
Campbell did not at all let the anti-Nate crowd factor intimidate him and nullified all the odds to win the bout impressively after rattling Cayo’s senses. Nate has been in a total 45 bouts and came out victorious in 34. The veteran American has collected
25 of his wins by knockout.
Widely known as ‘The Galaxy Warrior’, Nate has proudly held the apex lightweight titles twice and has also held the prestigious number one gold at the featherweight division as well. Unfortunately, the Jacksonville Campbell was facing the toughest time of
his career since he had lost four of his last five bouts and was in dire need to prove that he can reside and stay in the light welterweight division and can nail the top ranked pugilists.
Cayo resided at world’s 39th rank as compared to Nate’s 52nd position, a golden chance for the American Galaxy warrior to prove his worth. The bout started and during the first four rounds, Cayo kept on moving and jogging in the whole ring evading Nate’s
jabs and at the same time connecting fists to Campbell’s body and face.
The whole pro-Cayo crowd was overwhelmed by their man’s performance but from fifth round and onwards the veteran Nate used his experience and rattled Victor’s world and determination altogether.
During the fifth round, Nate threw a powerful right hand signature jab that connected Cayo’s left jaw and flattened him on the ring floor. From that point onwards, Victor was unable to perform well and took Nate’s continuous left-right combination jabs on
his body and face.
In the fifth round, Cayo fell twice and after the passage of just 42 seconds of the ninth round, Cayo got numbed and gave Roberto Ramirez senior, bout-referee, no choice but to bring the bout at a technical knockout stoppage.
Nate now has 35 wins in his account and 26 of them by knockout out of a total 46 and Cayo, who was coming from a first round knockout win over Nelson Sanchez, collected his career’s third defeat.
