American Pat Perez leading the Wells Fargo Championship after second round – Golf news
American golfer Pat Perez posted a second round score of 65 to lead the Wells Fargo Championship taking place in North Carolina.
Perez is now at twelve under par overall and is leading by two strokes at the Quail Hollow Golf Course.
The player did really well in the first round as well as he posted a 67. Following Perez is Bill Haas who is tied with Jonathan Byrd at ten under par overall. Phil Mickelson and Lucas Glover are tied for fourth place at nine under par overall.
The player started off with a bogey on the first hole but got right back on track as he made birdie on the second hole. He ended his front nine with a bang as he made back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes. Making the turn for two under par,
the player birdied his first hole on the back nine. Making another bogey on the eleventh hole, Perez was very focused. He made five birdies in his last six holes and set the golf course on fire.
He posted three consecutive birdies from hole number 13 to hole number 15. Finishing off with a couple of birdies, Perez had secured himself a two shot lead.
The first round from the player was decent as well as it consisted of nine birdies and four bogies.
“That's not what I had in mind when I stepped on the 13th tee, let me tell you that
much,” said Perez. “It was great to be on the course, and I knew I was playing well. It's nice to have peace on the course, and having some laughs and all that kind of stuff. It was nice. It was fun.”
Where one player surprised everyone with his amazing play, another golfer really did not live up to the expectations.
Rory McIlroy failed to make the cut after making an even par in the second round. The first round performance was horrible and he really needed to do well in the second round. McIlroy, who played in the US for the first time after his Masters meltdown, posted
five bogeys and five birdies in his second round.
