For those of you who know about bloodlines, whats your favorite American Pit Bull Terrier bloodline? I've been looking into getting a pit bull and I've found a breeder I like. His bloodlines is mostly york and some colby. I love the way his dogs look. What bloodline do you like? Is york a good bloodline?

  1. I dont know much about pits.. but I know there are a "few" knowledgeable people on here who can better advise you on the bloodlines.

There's people who think Gotti and Razor's Edge are the best.. but the more knowledgeable people on here will tell you that they are not "real" pits, but rather mixed breed dogs that are bred to look more like a cross between a hippo and a pig!

I've seen York and Colby lines mentioned before, but for the life of me, I cant remember if they were considered reputable lines or not!

I will star this for you.. hopefully someone more knowledgeable will see and answer for you!

  2. some of my favorite lines are  Jeep, Colby, Chinaman, Crenshaw,Turtlebuster, Redboy, Boudreaux, Carver, Bolio, Mayfield,

old Razorsedge (before he started mixing breeds), Eli, Watchdog,Gator (old line)...theres alot of great bloodlines.

York is not a bad line, although i dont care for it , theres been speculation that Ginny York mixes breeds, (not confirmed) but her dogs are pretty stocky, so alot of people say she mixes with AmStaffs.and possibly American Bulldogs.they are just not your standard Pit Bull.York is more of a show line. as for Colby thats a great line produced alot of champions and beautiful dogs, keep in mind that it is a game line.

  4. hi,

The American Pit Bull Terrier is a companion and family dog. Originally bred to "bait" bulls, the breed evolved into all-around farm dogs, and later moved into the house to become "nanny dogs" because they were so gentle around children. Their tenacity, gameness, and courage make them popular competitors in the sports of weight pulling, agility, and obedience competition.

    hope this helps.

  5. mheather83, I love the look of a american pit bull terrier. They are so cute.

  6. i have a pit myself, but i know nothing about bloodlines.

but if theres any chance...why not look into a shelter??

    Pleasee just think about it!

plenty of loving pits there already!

but if not, thats ok, just thought id throw it out there

    good luck!

  7. Bully and Gottie

  8. The poor things have all got deformed ears caused by cropping them.  How sad :(

  9. i don't know if york is a good bloodline i haven't really ever liked that but i do like colby and i also like gotti lines you should get colby

  10. Both are excellent EXCELLENT lines however if you are purchasing a dog please make sure BOTH the parents were OFA tested as MANY of the game bred dogs tend to be lacking in health testing. Also health testing is nice but the parents should also have been titled in SOMETHING whether conformation or work such as weight pull etc.

None of the kennels i would recommend are producing litters right now.

ETA: I wouldn't consider any of those dogs "stocky" as that would be against the APBT standard, the standard says the APBT is supposed to be a balanced dog, focused on the overall versus being stocky or having a large headpiece.

A good resource that is illustrated to educate is listed in my sources now and is a great place to learn about the breed and what is the standard and what to look for.

  11. No idea but I'm glad to hear someone trying to buy from a good breeder with good bloodlines.  Way too many poorly bred Pitts out there, it's nice to see someone with a little more sense.

Sorry I can't answer more than that!

  12. I have always been impressed by Caragan Lines of APBT... they are really working to better the breed for aggression and what they were originally bred to do. She does specialize in the Red Nose and Blacks mostly, but I think she has great lines. She does weight pulling comp with her dogs.  I am not a APBT fan but I had rescued a Cane Corso/APBT 6 years ago and did tons of research. I actually contacted her ones via email to ask more about what to do to train him. They were helpful and very knowledgeable. They do not cross breed these dogs with anything and if you are researching lines be sure these dogs are not crosses with Eng. Bulls or American Bulls.

Yeah if those are Colby and York they look like good APBT though you wont know unless you check out the breeder. The lines help but the breeder is the one that makes or breaks a dog. I will send a link to Caragan Kennels. They probably have York and Colby in there blood too. The ONLY thing I dont like about her dogs is she crops there ears still I dont condone cropping.

  13. colby and york are some pretty good lines, do you have the pedigree by any chance? the only lines i dont really like are the razors edge or gotti pig bulls.. they are the result or mixing breeds.. any way good luck finding a pup!!

  14. i love the York and Colby Dogs, wonderful choice, very very pretty things i've seen come from them.

Please Please what ever you do do NOT go for gotti or razors edge they are terribly bred dogs.

Add: now those are the pitbulls i love to see.
