  1. A cookbook from your region of the country would be *great.*

    Candy.

For teenagers & kids your favorite DVD(s) or Cd(s). Even if it's popular & they've probably seen it-it'll still be a good, American gift & let them know a little bit more about you.

Anything regional, unique to your town.

    Add:

You can buy compatible DVDs online very easily. Still love the cookbook idea. I love it when friends bring me cookbooks from their travels.

  2. That's a lovely thought.  I agree with the first poster that something unique to the region of the U.S. that you live in would be great.  Perhaps you live in Ohio where farming ? is big (I have no clue about that I'm making that bit up).

I think if you want a gift that would cover a family, how about U.S. sweets or chocolates?  Your peanut butter m&m's are to die for and are very very hard (& expensive) to come by.  Chocolates or anything yummy always goes down a treat.  Just be sure to declare it at the airport when you come in.

    Enjoy your stay.

  3. Something that you can only get in America, this way they will know that no one else will have one unless they have visited America.

  4. an open mind and a warm heart, that's all you need, and we will love you for that.

  5. We had an exchange student for a few weeks when I was still at school. She brought, an American flag beach towel (a really big and soft one), a few keyrings including one that was a san francisco number plate with my name on it, some touristy tshirts, a calender and some money to show us.

Perhaps you should look for things that us Aussies pay alot more for such as perfumes, cosmetics, clothes, etc.

  6. top secret suggested dvd's but your's will not work in australia, different zone(unless you can find multi zone)

a book about where you live would be nice, and take photos of your family and the town you live in to share with your host family
