American Schools?

Hi, Just out of curiosity could anyone tell me (in full) how the American Schooling System goes...I am from the UK...Thanks!

Well, typically we go to school for Kindergarten (age 5) and grades 1-12. Sometimes parents send their children to Pre-school. Kindergarten is usually half-day (mornings or afternoons). We have Elementary School (grades 1-5), Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12).  For me: High School was from 7:30am-2:05pm. Middle was 8:30am-3:30pm. Elementary was 9:30am-3:30pm.

In Elementary children typically stay in the same class room the whole day and taught by the same teacher for their classes with the exception of Music, Art, and Gym classes. they have "recess" time as well as lunch time.  

In middle school they change classes, but don't have a wide-variety of teachers (3 or more per grade. Social Sciences and Social Studies tend to be taught by the same teacher, one for math, another for Literature/Writing). On top of the music, art, and gym classes- we have to take health/s*x-ed. Sometimes they get a "snack-time", but indoors.

In High School we have a "homeroom" where attendance is taken. We change classrooms every period, keep books and belongings in lockers, and teachers vary based on courses you choose and your learning ability. Typically 1 language, 4 english courses, 3 maths, 3 sciences, 3 histories (one of which is US), a basic computer course, 3 Wellness (health/gym, and some electives are required for graduation. Atleast two years of a foreign language is requied to go to college.

it goes on like this up until 12 grade

Well our school's usual start at 7:30am and end at either 2:00pm or(for middle and high school)3:00pm.

Middle School(depending on which school  you go to)-grades 6,7,and 8th

High School(depending on which school you go to)-grades 9th,10th,11th and 12th.

Its easy for me! So no stress! You're gonna love it:)
