American Solheim Cup team Captain Rosie Jones reveals the American team members
American Solheim Cup team Captain Rosie Jones has finally announced the 12-member squad which will be heading into this year’s Solheim Cup, scheduled next month. The announcement was made on August 23, when Jones revealed the names of the lucky 12 players
who managed to reserve a place at one of the most celebrated title in ladies golf and is often referred to as the Ryder Cup of the Ladies Golf.
“This has been an extremely exciting and difficult selection process,” said Jones. “I’ve been tracking these players for more than two years and tonight I feel we have built a fantastic team to represent the United States. Vicky and Ryann are two really
solid players who will complement our team as we now focus on our strategy and performance next month at The Solheim Cup at Killeen Castle.”
Jones who had to make a decision over two reserved berths on her disposal, decided in favour of Vicky Hurst and LPGA Tour rookie Ryann O’Toole while the rest of the ten players managed to get into the team through the points based system. The ten players
include Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis, Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome, Brittany Lang, Juli Inkster, and Christina Kim.  Inkster will also be assisting Jones as vice Captain in the event and has also become the
oldest player in the Solheim Cup history at the age of 51.
“I will be a player first and an assistant captain second and Rosie understands that,” Inkster said.
The European Captain Alison Nicholas, has yet to announce the strong European team for the event and the decision is likely to come out on August 29. Some of the top performers on the tour are already in the team based on the points system on the LET and
also the Henderson Money List while the rest of the two players will be selected by Nicholas herself.
The team is likely to include Melissa Reid, Laura Davies, Suzann Pettersen and Solheim rookie Christel Boeljon and Caroline Hedwall of Sweden will also be part of the field at the event. Hedwall is also number third on the money list after her consecutive
wins on the tour this season.
The coveted Solheim Cup is a biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition which is contested between the American and European teams. The title was enacted in the memory of Karsten Solheim and his family who are also the owners of the legendary golf
manufacturing equipment company PING.
The cup is often dubbed as the Ryder Cup of Ladies Golf and over the years the title has pretty much taken the same status.
