American Sport Industry: LeBron and Brett, the only athletes offered this year?
Open any major sports news website, or switch on your TV, skip through channels all you’ll be reading or seeing news related to a few stars and the same stories about them being repeated over and over again. It really get’s one sick to their knees at one point to the same faces flash over the media endlessly.
News about what they do throughout the day, where they go, what they eat; it won’t be long from now when sports journalists start covering in what posture most stars like to sleep in. Will the sports industry come up with something new to analyze and discuss about or will we have to suffer for a little longer?
Here is a list of a few athletes from different sports that seem to have been dominating the news since the past year or so:
NBA - LeBron James
Topping the charts is LeBron James; undoubtedly he might be one of the best players in the National Basketball Association. However, it does not diminish the fact that he has been covered by almost every media outlet there; he has dominated his way through the league and now is making a run in the news every day. After becoming a free agent early this year, he decided to leave his hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers and join the Miami Heat. Articles and news about the All-Star player have wavered around constantly. Even those who did not even watch sports, are well-accustomed by who this young lad is now.
Golf - Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods, and I have said it all. He was once United States of Americas pride, however all that changed when he cheated on his wife with reportedly over a dozen women and admitted to it. Despite the fact the news is more than a year old, Tiger seems to hit the news every once in a while. Reports on the ongoing divorce process between him and his ex-wife, let alone sports analysts have started giving an analysis on his body language every time he steps the course. They say he is much more different then before the news of his infidelity to his wife surfaced.
NFL - Brett Favre
It seems like the National Football Leagues star quarter backs Brett Favre addiction never ceases to die. His indecisiveness to decide what team he wanted to join had been capitalized on by the media, and somehow fans don’t seem to get bored of reading about him. Thousands of articles relating to Brett can be found on any website, no matter what the topic might be it all ends with one conclusion, what team will Mr. Favre will be joining? Thankfully, last evening he decided to announce he’ll be joining the Minnesota Vikings. As he landed on the Minnesota airport, he was followed by an entourage of reporters and paparazzi wait. That was not the only thing, news helicopters hovered around his SUV as he exited the airport along with his wife. Some say he put O.J Simpsons to shame.
MLB - Francisco Rodriguez
Francisco Rodriguez, where can one begin from when it comes to the notorious professional baseball player. K-Rod with his indiscretions and bad temperament, it’s like he is in a race with Britney Spears and almost enjoys the attention but somehow pretends to hate it. Not only is he a relentless pitcher with one of the best percentage in the Major League Baseball, he is widely known for his short-temper and creating unnecessary controversies. Once again he surfaced his way toping the MLB news charts after his brawl with his long-term girlfriend’s father, when he hit his head against the wall and pinned him down the floor and punched him countless times. At the moment, according the latest news, Rodriguez won’t be playing in upcoming games due to a thumb injury.
Tennis – The phenomena of R. F (Rodger Federer or Rafael Nadal?)
This topic does not seem to subside; instead articles regarding the two seem to surface with an average of at least a few thousands per day. The heated debate relating to which one out of the two is better seems to keep growing; for some Rodger is the best player ever to live while others says nobody can match Rafael’s divinity. Go on any sports website, press the “Tennis” section button, and it’s a guarantee you’ll either see a comparison between the two, or some tale describing the twos godly presence in the tennis industry.
Now don’t get me wrong, I myself have written a lot about the players mentioned-above. As a writer it does get a tad bit boring to write about them but what can one do, as these athletes are quite in demand, and also as an avid reader all I get to read is about these players. It sometimes gives me a feeling I know more about them than I know about myself.
