American Stacy Lewis slips to third position in Women's World Golf Rankings
American Stacy Lewis, who stunned her rivals by surging to the second spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings a few days ago, has slipped one place to settle at the third position.
Lewis was standing firm at the second spot in the world rankings a couple of days back, but a lacklustre performance at the US Women’s Open 2012 made a dent in her hard-earned position.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who won the US Women’s Open 2012, has knocked Lewis off her old position, leaving her struggling to get back on track.
The American star kicked off the major tournament at Kohler in a decent style, but could not play her best.
Analysts said that Lewis could have consolidated her position in the world rankings, but her game looked a little out of shape, as she finished tied for the 46th on the leaderboard.
Getting off to an unimpressive start at Kohler last week, the 27-year-old golfer played lousy strokes on most of the holes, which took a toll on her overall score.
She scored a 77 in the opening round and played a worse-than-expected game. The American prodigy tried to regain her composure in the second round as she posted an impressive 69.
“You know, I actually didn't play that bad yesterday. I just kind of let a few things get to me. My attitude was not very good, and I came out today, I didn't really have anything to lose, and I knew I was playing well. So just a little better attitude,” she said of her second-round performance.
However, all her efforts seemed to go in vain when she tainted her scorecard by recording an 80 in the third round.
Lewis started the 2012 season in an impressive style, as she won two tournaments, Mobile Bay LPGA Classic and ShopRite LPGA Classic.
Aware of the mounting pressure from her rivals, the LPGA giant is steeling for tough times ahead. It remains to be seen how she fares against competitors in the upcoming tournaments, but she has shown in the past events that she has what it takes to grab a victory.
Choi’s advances in the world rankings may have rattled Lewis a little, but she is not going to walk away without putting up a tough fight.
