American Todd Rogers says tour will be a lot tougher – Volleyball news
The 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour has been opened with the double-gender event of Brasilia Open on Sunday, 17th April in Brazil.
The beach action is underway in Rio de Janeiro, the capital city of Brazil. Some of the teams were already registered in the Main-Draw, while some of them had to appear in the Country Quota Playoffs. The opening day of the tournament featured the “Country
Quota” Playoffs, which led the successful teams into the “Qualification Tournament.”
The tournament is now supposed to enter the more influential stage of Main Draw on Wednesday. Only 32 teams will be featured in the Main Draw, while the tournament will further progress with the single elimination bracket.
The American top-seeded pair of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers will open the 2011 Brasilia Open in the Main Draw. They are scheduled to play their first match on Wednesday, 20th April. Since the American duo worked out a great name in previous season and
finished with maximum title-wins, the fans are expecting another memorable performance from them at the 2011 Season. The air is full of different stories, predictions, opinions and what not. The beach volleyball enthusiasts are surely up for a stellar performance
by their favourite duo.
However, Todd Rogers opined that this season is going to be a lot different than the previous one. The 37-year old is very well aware of the potential of competitors. He believes that there will be challenges on every stage of the tour.
In the recent memory, Rogers shared his thoughts on a local Brazilian sports website. He said, “We don’t expect to win nine [events] out of 12 again. Last year was a great season. I think the tour will be a lot tougher.”
Speaking of other hotshots of tournament, Rogers stated, “Brink and Reckermann from Germany should be healthy and whole. They missed half the season last year. Ricardo and Marcio have another year under their belt playing together as do Allison and Emanuel
from Brazil. Plus, all the other American teams I expect will be primed and ready as well. Should be fun. I think a good season on the FIVB for any team is winning four maybe five events. Nine was unexpected, but we will try to match it. Hopefully, we can
regain our World Championship title.”
