I am american I was born and raised. My girlfriend is british born and raised. I have been dating here for about 4 years now. And we travel back and forth to each other many times. And now we want to get married in the UK being that her family is in the UK.

I would like to know if anyone have 1st hand experience.

I want to plan to leave the US in January and we want to get married like in April.

I want to know when would I be able to apply to become a citizen?

When would I be able to start working and get a permit?

and How long does the process take?

What If we decide to have a child during the Process?

Do anyone know how do I go about doing everything?

I really need help.

What type of visa do I need?

What forums do I need?

I am many things to ask..

Please and Thanks

  1. You will need a fiance visa to go to the UK to marry her, this applies whether you plan to live in the UK or not. You will find links on how to apply on the British Embassy website in the US.

Once you are in the UK and married you need to apply for leave to remain, this will let you stay and work in Britain. http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/passports-a...

It is a lot easier and faster moving from the US to the UK than the other way around.

    Having children will change nothing.

  2. Hi

There is not a problem in settling in the UK. The laws are flexible but still I would suggest you visit the website and this will give you ALL the answers.

I am an EEA national and I took my family ONLY with the help of the home office website.

Its http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk go to passports and immigration and many other places. This is a very informative site so take your time and STUDY the facts.

God bless you both will have a nice family life together.
