Question:

American airlines safe?

I'm not concerned at all with the food (I'm vegan, I don't expect much), but I'm moreso concerned with how safe AA is. My flight is in a week and my whole family is going. I've been paranoid about flights since forever.

How safe is AA? Are their safety regulations up to par? Should I be worried? :/

Important: I don't need to know that they are "as safe as any other". Experience, statistics, etc.

  1. I just flew american last week.

I had a good experience with it.

Due t othe outrageous price of gasoline, they charge you for food and stuff. But I don't eat meat also so it was no big deal. They do give you a drink though.

I don't have any statistics, but my flight was okay, it was from st. louis to los angeles and it was fine. I got kinda cold though but only because the person sitting next to me had their air on.

They have the smae security precautions that all other airlines have.

Luckily my flight was smooth and had just a bit of turbulence, but I'm not sure how other people handle it. I don't mind turbulence unless I have a drink that keeps spilling all over me.

  2. Yes, they're safe. No, you shouldn't be worried. American's accident rate is about 0.40 fatal accidents for every one million departures. You can find airlines with lower rates, but we're talking about differences of a fraction of a million. Differences of a fraction of a million are not even statistically significant.

If that's not enough consider this. Every day, thousands of American Airlines' pilots and flight attendants get on those planes and operate the flights. Would they do that if the planes were unsafe? You were interested in the experiences of people who actually fly on American. Well, those people fly American hundreds of times each year over periods of years. And, they keep going back to do it every work day. That should be all the proof that you need.

I'm not sure what you mean by "setbacks in New York". I follow the aviation industry closely and I haven't read or heard anything unusual with American in New York. If you're talking about delayed flights, then that's not unique to American. New York is the air traffic delay capital of the universe. Every airline has problems there.

  3. The truth of the matter is American is the safest U.S. airline out there besides Southwest. Both have higher standards of aircraft check list then the faa requires. Yes, American has had some set backs due to a lack in the FAA who hasnt given the airline all the changes that they have started to due when they happen, other wise they whould of had it done by the dead line and you would of never heard about it.

  4. AA is the biggest airline in the world and is extremely safe. I fly continental or united regularly but i've been on american recently and had great flights and never for a second felt unsafe.

I know you don't want as safe as any other but they are held to the same regulations as any other US carrier. Don't even worry for a second. Enjoy your flights. Remeber, you are more likely to have something happen to you on the way to the airport. Air travel is the safest and most fun form of travel!
