I found it in my backyard and I just left it alone at first but then I realized that it was learning how to fly and it still can't fly high enough to get to its nest so I momentarily took it in and I'm feeding it orange slices. Help please.

  1. It does look like a starling. I would personally feed it hulled seeds, lettuce, and freeze dried meal worms. Moistened whole grain cereals are good too.

  2. Mockingbird. You should have left it where it was. Mother birds will still feed their fledglings.

They'll eat anything and you need to give them protein. Go to any wild bird feed store and look for live mealworms.

  3. I am Canadian, but it looks to me to be a starling. Google it. I wouldn't feed it orange slices, the acidity will probably be a problem. I would try apple or some berries.

  4. ah what pictures?

  5. This bird is a fledgling...you need to put it back outside immediately for it's parents to continue feeding it.  It has LEFT the nest and it does not want or need to get back to it..this is the point of birds leaving the nest in the first place.  If you keep the bird too long the parents might think their baby has been eaten by a predator and leave the area.  Place the bird back near where you found it, preferably in a tree or scrub where it will be relatively safe from predators.  Watch from afar to see if the parents are around and feeding..I am sure they are. If for some reason you do not see the parents in the area looking for thier baby after a couple hours, you may want to get the bird to a local wildlife rehab.  It is hard to ID baby birds before they have their adult plumage..but my best guess might be a Mockingbird.

  6. What a CUTIE! I'm thinking some kind of warbler. Just a guess, though.

Here's a picture of an adult:

Look familiar? Just the shape of it's beak and body.

Here's some instructions on what to do with your rescued baby:

I suggest calling a wildlife rehab or wild bird center immediately. Good Luck! ^_~
