American boxer Chris Arreola faces Friday Ahunanya in New Jersey on Saturday – Boxing news
American national professional boxer Chris Arreola is set to face 39-year-old heavyweight contender Friday Ahunanya in their 10-round bout this Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The Arreola vs. Ahunanya fight is scheduled to take place along the sidelines of the main event between Paul Williams and Erislandy Lara.
According to many boxing fans and critics, Arreola is the heavy favourite of this competitive bout against Ahunanya as far as his past performances and current fitness level is concerned.
The 30-year-old Arreola is coming back to the ring after winning four of his consecutive fights. In his last fight, Arreola won a seventh-round technical knockout decision defeating 20-year-old Heavyweight contender Kendrick Releford in May 2011 at the Reno
Events Centre in Reno, Nevada.
Arreola scored his 28th knockout victory of his professional boxing career. Chris ‘The Nightmare’ Arreola turned professional after winning a second-round technical knockout decision against Roosevelt Parker of the US in 2003.
After winning 27 of his back-to-back bouts, Arreola faced the first ever loss of his career through a 10-round retired hurt decision when he went against Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine in 2009 in California.
If Arreola wins this competitive bout against Ahunanya in New Jersey, he will be able to get a bout against big boxing names such as Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir Klitschko.
On the other hand, the Nigerian professional boxer, Friday Chinedu Ahunanya looked struggling against his last couple of opponents.
The current PABA Heavyweight and NABA Heavyweight champion Ahunanya is coming to the ring against Arreola facing back-to-back losses in his career. In his second last fight, Friday ‘The 13th’ Ahunanya lost through a 12-round unanimous points’ decision when
he went for the WBO Oriental Heavyweight title against David Tua of New Zealand in Auckland in 2010.
Ahunanya faced the seventh loss of his career through a six-round unanimous points’ decision against Cisse Salif of Mali in his last fight at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California. Ahunanya turned professional winning his first-round technical
knockout decision against Larry Wilson in 1998 in the US.
