American bunco?

Question

Any of our American cousins know what bunco means? I keep reading it in books (James Ellroy etc) and assume it means a con-artist - is this right?

Yeah. I'd say it means fraud and implies street level con jobs. But it's not used much at all any more. Kind of faded out by the 1960's.
