  1. As long as the government or corporations keep the working class fat/lazy and entertained/ignorant (religious, drunk, or sports), those in control can do whatever they want with our working class military youth and the US taxes.

US schools are becoming more and more like prison systems.

Every child left behind has to be either funded or revoked.

I think going back to the one room schools and giving the teachers the whole $5,000 for each child might be a solution.

School needs to relate more to reality.  Learning food, shelter, and clothing (Maslows hierchy of needs) can be combined with reading, writing, math, history, and science.  If it is practical kids will retain info better and be ready for the real world.

  2. Funny, if education in the US sucks, then why does most of the world emigrate here?

Why are our universities full of foreigners?

Or is it that the rest of the world is more ignorant and doesn't know any better?

BTW there is no such thing as the NAU.

  3. There is no educational system in this country.  Read the book "The dumbing down of America".

  4. Okay, wait. Back up here.

You're not trying to insult us...yet you use your additional information to insult us? Maybe it's my American education lacking here, but I'm having a hard time seeing the logic in this one.

You're falling into the trap of stereotyping, it seems to be a virus around here or something. You're saying that because America is a wealthy nation, there are no poor people here, is that it? I think you need to have a clearer understanding of government (and grammar, punctuation, etc...but that's another topic entirely). Far too many people in America work extremely hard at several jobs just to keep a roof over their heads. Alot of people don't want to use the welfare system because they'd rather support themselves, and good for them for not comprimising their values! Unfortunately, this does mean that sometimes the education is going to suffer. But I'm personally more apt to respect the person who works hard and lives a good life than the person who's smart and lazy. My opinion.

I'm one of those people who had to leave school in order to help support my family. It happens. And yet, having only an eighth grade American education, I'm still more articulate and well-versed than...some people...hmm.

Whoever it was above me who said that you cannot base judgements on American education by what you read on Y/A, kudos to you! That sums up this entire ridiculous "question" perfectly.

  5. That's absolutely rediculous. If anything, it's because of poverty. There's a substancial group of Americans who either can't afford to fully educate themselves, or they cannot afford to attend school in lieu of working.

  6. You're lack of punctuation and improper use of grammar WOULD confirm the point. But, I believe you to be a foreigner? No? Taught English in another country?

First, the USA does not have "one of the worst" education systems in the world. Far from it.

But it is bad. And it is declining. But as a way to control America? No.

The declining of education in America starts with the decline of American Culture, Values and Morals. Once a nation that understood that it was One Nation, Under God; we have allowed our beliefs and virtues to be decided for us by the Media and Cable TV.

"If Hollywood does it, I should do it"

"If Hollywood says it, I should say it"

"If Hollywood believes it, I should believe it"

Our fascination with American Idol, ridiculous after school programs on MTV (e.g. a show dedicated to delivering a 'magical' sweet sixteen birthday to a s****., yuppie all-American teen), and whichever Hollywood actor / actress has deemed a worthy cause of the week.

The bottom line is that many Americans have stopped thinking for themselves. But far from all of us.

I agree with you that our American Government is not doing everything they should. We do need a stronger education system.

But more importantly, we need to stand up for ourselves and tell these people that have no business trying to cram their beliefs down our throats (George Clooney, Alec Baldwin, etc.) that we won't stand for it. I pay you to act, to put on a good show, to entertain. You have no business, nor any experience, knowledge or background, to be using your "screen time" and "tv time" to preaching your ludicrous beliefs. Leave that to the professionals.

  7. Before you start criticising the education of others you should at least phrase the question using proper punctuation and spelling. For someone who is not trying to insult Americans you are doing a very poor job of it. If you are judging the American education system by the answers on this forum, then that is just very poor research to back up your theory.

  8. I'm not intending to offend at all, but if you're going to insult America's educational system, you might want to brush up on your capitalization, punctuation, and sentance structure at the end there. None of us are perfect in this regard, but it would be easier to take you more seriously if you at least put in an effort.

That being said, I was born in Germany and had several years of schooling in Germany. Then we came here to America and this is where I finished my education. By far, the educational system here in America is better. Maybe it was just my experiences, I don't know, but the teachers I had were amazing and I was given plenty of opportunities to expand my education outside of the normal structured educational environment. Now I have a son in school and he's having similar experiences, his teachers are outstanding and he's learning things that were never even taught to us back in Germany, least of all at such a young age.

    My personal experiences anyhow. :)

  9. Author’s statement: “its fact usa has one of the lowest education systems in the world.”  The United States has excellent public schools in some places, the best in the world.  Other places look like the schools of third world nations.  That schools are now as segregated as they were in 1970 is criminal, and the test score maps and a socio-economic map are interchangeable (as in there is HIGH correlation to test scores and socio-economic status).  Schools have been shorted over $8 BILLION to cover the requirements of NCLB (which are mostly ridiculous standardized tests that don’t tell teachers anything they don’t already know).  Included in NCLB is adequate yearly progress (AYP).  It is used to determine if a school or district is moving forward.  The school population is disaggregated by gender, race, socio-economic status, disability status and so forth.  If any ONE category does not make progress, then the entire school is labeled as failing.

I believe that the United States best students can and do compete on par or better with the students from anywhere in the world.  But the United States also educates students that in the rest of the world institutionalize.  The current political climate requires teachers to abandon the professional name “TEACHER” and instead take on the service provider name of “TEST PREPARATION AGENT FOR THE STATE.”  This climate is at attempt by the Business Roundtable to place such high expectations on schools that are unattainable, that in 2014 when those expectations are not met, will scream at the top of their lungs, “See how public education has failed.  WE MUST PRIVATIZE PUBLIC EDUCATION.”  If this is done, the United States will be the land of economic apartheid, where the rich and wealthy become richer and wealthier, the middle-class disappears, and the ranks of the poor grow exponentially.

  10. "What is your views?"

I might have agreed with you, but now you've just gone and embarassed we Brits as well.

  11. just because USA isn't the #1 education system in the world does not mean you should so foolishly tout it as "one of the lowest in the world"

do you have any idea how ridiculous that sounds?

  12. Americans are generally just born stupid i'm afraid
