American forward Max Pacioretty signs a six-year extension with Montreal Canadiens for $27 million
Max Pacioretty has signed an extension of six years with Montreal Canadiens of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The deal is reported to be $4.5 million for every year, $27 million for six years.
The American forward still has one year left with his previous contact, which he signed in 2011 for two years. And this is the third contract that he has signed with Montreal Canadiens, first being an entry level deal in 2008 for three years.
The 23-year-old left winger has also got an increment as his salary is increased almost 2.5 times to what it was in last contract. In last contract he was given $1,625,000 per year, the main cause of increment being his improved performance last season,
which was his best out of four seasons he has played with Canadiens.
Talking to Montreal Gazette, Pacioretty was very happy talking about his new deal and wanted this to happen as he said,
"This is something I wanted to get done. I think once the team knew I wanted to get it done, they jumped on the opportunity as well”.
New Canaan, Connecticut born player also wants to prove Canadiens right by fulfilling their expectations and trust that have shown by giving him such a huge contract. He wants to help his team as he added,
"The biggest thing for me is, my career has been maybe plagued by instability and just to be able to call Montreal home for seven years is such an honor. I want to do whatever I can to help this team win and this will help me focus on that for years to come."
The 6-foot-2, 212 pounder was selected 22nd overall in the first round of the 2007 NHL draft by Montreal, Quebec based side and made his NHL debut in January 2009 against New Jersey Devils and scored in his very first match.
Last season was best of his life as he scored 65 points, 33 goals, 32 goals in 79 NHL games and also shown an impressive performance for team USA in 2012 World Championships, scoring two goals, 10 assists, 12 total points eight games.
