American-friendly yet authentic Swiss restaurants/bars in Lucerne?

I'm looking for some really good restaurants/bars in Lucerne that are American-friendly that wouldn't be too hard for a non-German speaking person to enjoy. Any help is appreciated! I'll be visiting in the end of May.

  1. The Wildenman resturant and pub is freakin awesome!!!  I have been there in a few years so I hope it's still around.

  2. How about Restaurant Fritschi..? Sternenplatz 5, phone: 041 410 16 15. Located inside a strangely decorated house (demons, not turn-of-the-century frescos), you can find this traditional Swiss restaurant specializing in... potatoes! Rösti to be more precise, actually, which are boiled-grated-fried (in that order) potatoes - and they are delicious! And, yes, they like Yanks!

Or try this one: "Old Swiss House", the name only says it all. An old family restaurant with a great wine cellar. Löwenplatz 4, phone: 041 410 61 71. They wait for you, the Americans!

And then you have "Rebstock"! St.-Leodegar-Str. 3, phone: 041 417 18 19. If you are in Lucerne, don't go and eat fondue; fondue is from the french part of Switzerland/or from the neigbouring French Franche Comté - here you rather eat Rösti and Buurebratwurst (fried sausage). No doubt, they speak English.

  3. a lot of people in switzerland can speak some english esp. in the cities and restaurants.

  4. Where-ever you see young people just stop by since they like to speak english but almost everywhere in Lucerne they communicate in english due to many tourist.
