American friends, I have a cultural question?

In American movies, tv series and tv shows, it's being portrayed as American youth are VERY much into parties, and also making out games (e.g. 7 minutes in heaven, spinning the bottle). Especially students.

I was just wondering if it's really that popular. Feel free to give a detailed information about the topic.

  1. i know its pretty hard to believe...but alotta of americans are very shy...others more forward than others...but usually what you see on tv is loud mouths and people who can make tv "interesting" and for movies...producers think its cute...although it is a fun pass time at parties...us youth are alittle to afraid to do it...especially with our friends =]

  2. no not all young adults and teens are into partying.. I mean you said "in movies and on television" you know they have to make things look more exciting so you'll watch.  Watching teens sit at home playing video games or just watching TV on the weekend isn't exciting enough to put on tv i guess.  Don't get me wrong there are people out there that like to party (some do it in moderation and some in excess), but its just a stereotype to say all young adults engage in that behavior.

  3. i'm an older guy so i'm not sure if stuff like that goes on today.

but when i was a teenager in the 80's, we had games similar to spin the bottle. nothing really lead to anything sexual, but here's how it went.

you would write your name on a slip of paper and they would separate the boys with the girls.

then one would draw a name from each pile at random and whoever got picked had to kiss for 30 seconds.

there was usually 50 or more people playing and the rule was that if you wanted to participate, you had to kiss whoever was chosen. no refusals. i had to kiss a few dogs, but i did get to kiss a few hotties too.

    it was a blast.

  4. I'm not of that generation, but I will say "Don't believe everything you see/hear, especially in movies or on tv. "  This is entertainment and is not meant to be a documentary on the 'true life' of the American college student.  Sure there are young people who do nothing but party, basically, and there are those who are hard working, studious, etc.  The entertainment medium takes small things and expands on them for laughs.  People realize it is exaggeration.

  5. "In American movies.....". That's your answer-movies.
