  1. The first answer is correct and your status is based on your reason for being in the UK.

    Try this website:

  2. Before you move there you have to have a job there. So while you're going to school try to find a job.

  3. Generally as an American you cannot take up permanent residence in any part of the UK unless you have a shed load of money to invest, have a skill which is in high demand here, or are being transferred by an American company with a branch over here.

Under certain circumstances you may be able to change your visa whilst you are here...but it does say that the criteria for that is that you must not have broken any immigration laws, and going on your other question where you say you are going to work full time when you are only allowed to work part time, you will have broken those rules, so will not be allowed to change your status here.

Read through this link for the relevant information...

This may sound harsh to you but we would have the same problems in the US, and as we are becoming more and more integrated into the EU, people from the member states take precedence in everything over those who are not.

    Edit...

Yes it is...even those who are from the Commonwealth countries would have the same type of problems...it's just the way of the world nowadays and how we have to kowtow to the monster that has become the EU.

    Edit

Sorry but no.  No matter how many times you ask, the facts still remain that as you are not a citizen of the EU, you cannot come here and take up permanent residency, or get a work permit unless you fill the criteria at my first paragraph to this answer.

So if you really are h**l bent on coming here your best option would be to get your qualifications there in the US in a field that is in high demand here in the UK and then get yourself a job here...you will be welcomed with open arms then!
