  1. I live in Baja, and I am a full-time resident. I make sure to go too the T.V. office before my visa expires and turn it in and then go back and get another one, I don't leave the country. You can have it for 180 days, and renew it. They may try to get you to get a FM3 so don't say anything about your living there. Always turn in the one you have before it expires. As they can charge you for not doing it.

    Just a visitor.

  2. You sure can, in fact you can do it in one day...many people do.  ActuallyI recently discovered that the Mexican immiration site states that you can get a new tourist card by going to the nearest INM office...you do not have to leave the country.  See the website below.  Most major cites have  an I N M office.

Yes you can extend your visa up to 180 days (six months)

    >>> As a tourist, you may stay in Mexico for up to 180 days

Many people cross the border for a new visa

  4. All you have to do is cross the border for 24 hours, any border. So it will depend on what part of the country you find yourself in when it is time to renew your visa. If you are on the Yucatan you can cross at Chetumal where there is a Free Trade Zone with a Casino. So you can just spend a night at the Casino and return the next day. I also suggest applying for an FM-3 Visa while in Mexico. It will give you one year and is renewable. Good Luck, I live on an FM-3 in Merida myself.

  5. 24 hours is all I had to do. Cross the border and go back. All they ask is if you have the $$ to live and pay your 20.00
