  1. Depends on you style of living......You can get away living and eating very cheaply in Colombia but if you want to live in the safest areas and eat a good places...it will cost ya....

Colombia has become expensive in my eyes.....

A few years ago, as the Dollar became more powerful....prices rose in Colombia to accommodate this rise.....At one point where the Peso was almost at 4000 per dollar.....

But since the American Dollar has hit a huge decline.. the exchange rate per dollar went down.....the prices in Colombia did not.

The amount you will spend depends on your needs....

Technology in Colombia is very $$$$ because everything is imported....so buy electronics in the states.

If your into Name brand clothing.....GAP....etc....Buy everything in the states.

As for moving to Colombia, You will need to go to the Colombian Consulate for information on a long term stay in Colombia. La DAS only gives 3 month stay to tourists with one needing to go to their offices if you want an extension.

Colombia is a beautiful country and I wouldn't mind moving there if an opportunity is granted to me....I could see myself living in Bogota...my second hometown.

Oh...and If one of your parents are Colombian and was born in the Country, you are allowed to get Dual Citizenship.

  2. depends....what kind of guy are you....?

  3. Services in Colombia are much less expensive than here, but imported goods such as cars, computers etc. may cost more due to tariffs.  Four years ago the Colombian peso was converting at 2800 to the dollar.  Now it's more like 1975 to 1.  That means the exchange rate may influence your decision.

As for living there, do you speak Spanish?  Have a needed profesion or tech skill?  Good jobs are scarce there.  And while a visa is not required to VISIT Colombia, a resident visa is required to LIVE there.

In any event, it is a beautiful country and I intend to retire there.  But I won't need a job either and my wife is Colombian.

  4. It depends on how much US dollars you are planning to spend every month, your tastes, etc. Dont assume that because it's South America, you will be able to live like a king!!! A very good salary in any South American country (and I mean earned by a professional person with a master's degree) could be around 2 or 3 thousand dollars monthly and that is a very good income which by no means allow you to live like an emperor without doing anything else!

If you plan to live la vida loca in South America, or any other country, plan to have around 5 thousand dollars every month!! Any person with dollars will live better in South America but again, it all depends on how much dollars are we talking about and what life style would you want to live.

  5. Ok. here is the thing.....the dollar tight now is equivalent to 1900 pesos. each time they are changing the value of the peso while the prices the are the same.....the of poorness is getting higher. the reason why things are so cheap over there is because most Colombians can not afford items at American price......life is dangerous over there because every thing is so unorganized. The only way that you can get a good living is if you keep a steady amount of money being sent to you from the states. My uncle is a doctor, he still gets payed badly. You also have to remember of the Armed -conflict, the paramiliterism, and the dangers of living there. FARC is located in major cities and their outskirts and sometiomes in small local places......Bogota,Medellin,Cali,doquebr... all major cities are very dangerous. they make new york feel like the safest town in the world. In colombia you have to watch your back a lot.

  6. Yes, but try to get a job first.
