why do most americans (i know it's not applying to you all) think most of us british people are very smart, boring, weird accented, goofy people who say "cheerio" "bloody ell" when most nearly all of us don't.. who says were the ones with the weird accents, you lot could be (not saying you do) like in cartoons (family guy, south park etc)

and no we do not live off fish and chips.. thats like saying america lives off burgers, kfc etc

I'm American and dated a guy from Southsea when he was staying here on business for 6 months. We are still good friends! He was smart, but not boring and had a lovely accent! And I never heard him say Cheerio, LOL!

This is yahoo UK  - how are Americans gonna answer it? - and more importantly who gives a c**p. I am from uk and I am always eating fish and chips and saying bloody h**l and I don't care who knows it.

Besides everywhere has loads of stereotypes American is worse than that and half of it aint true cos i went there 4 years ago - well apart from the burgers bit - they bloody love em!!

I don't know what you guys do differently. I've never been to Britain. I have some relatives in England, and they came to visit long ago. They had English accents but were pretty normal. They were just like us.

my mate who's American said she was surprised how different British people are to how she thought we'd be. She thought we all had bad teeth, lived off tea and addressed everyone as 'old chap'
