American students.. What is your stance on education?

What do you believe is wrong with our education system in America? Why don't some parents acknowledge that their kids are idiots?

Public school opinions and any other opinions welcomed also.

A lot of kids don't care about school, teachers don't know how to control a class room, everyone worries about offending other people, and the kids who don't care tend to drag down the classes of the kids who do care.

Everyone lives in denial.

Well, one problem is that the schools are under a lot of pressure to bring the poor students up to an average level.  So there's not much time or effort put into bringing the average students up to a higher level.  And the good students are completely ignored.  All the focus is on "no child left behind", and there's no concern for setting the bar any higher than a dumb average.

i am not an idiot and yeah the teachers dont really care but some kids do make it 2 college

Because parents want their best for their kids or they just don't want to deal with the fact of keeping them home that's all is to it!

alright so i'm a student going into my senior year of high school..and honestly it is mostly the teachers fault. we have honors courses (the highest), advanced courses (in the middle), and regular classes. i'm mostly in the honors and advanced classes, and the teachers who teach those classes care a lot about the students and really try to help us in every way possible, but i was in regular math this year and the kids were so out of control and the teacher did not teach anything. he didn't care at all. i understand it's a lower class, but it doesn't mean all the kids are stupid or don't care about school. that was my only average class and it was because i've never been good at math. some of the blame can be put on the students if they are lazy and don't care at all.

It's all due to lack of discipline from parents. We get teachers and educators whining about the money, the money, the money, when we in fact spend the most money per student out of any country in the world. So why don't we have the #1 students in the world? Good question. When I went to middle school, every day, almost half of the kids in each class did not have their homework! I just can't believe how stupid some kids are, and how free some parents are with their kids! It's not funny! You can't s***w around with disciplining your kids because if they are too d*mn stupid to get a job they will eventually just freeload off of you!!

The problem is we've taken critical thinking and debate out of classrooms and now just spoon feed and indoctrinate kids so they can pass a government test to graduate without any useful skills for real life and college.

Our schools go so far to take out any creativity and individuality from students by forcing them to dress, act, and think alike. Sound familiar? If not, read a history book.

Teachers are more concerned with what a student is wearing than if they're actually learning.

Schools are actually banning hugs. Yes, you read correctly. STUDENTS CAN GET SUSPENDED FOR SIMPLY HUGGING A FRIEND!

I go to public school. I take my school work seriously, unlike most of the people in my school. I think that kids take advantage of public education and they are just to lazy to do their work.

The students could be to blame. Students are lazy and show no concern for school. It it the attitude of school is no fun, and that you are a nerd if you get A's that give students a reason not to care. Parents are so busy with work and social activities, teachers are underpaid, over worked, and classrooms are over crowded which means there is no one there to really motivate these youngsters. I think it is our society's attitude toward education that is to blame.
