American televison channels?

In Britain, we have the bbc1.bbc2.itv.....all free channels

I wanted to know, how it works in America

Ive heard of cbs, fox

Are those cable channels? If not what are the local channels and the cable channels

and whats TIVO

Tivo is a DVR, it records live TV.

Local channels are: NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox

Cable channels are: Too many to list.. some people even pay for hundreds of extra channels.

The free channels are ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW(UPN/WB), PBS, Home Shopping Network, and some local programming.

TIVO was the first big DVR company here.  But it's name is now synonymous with DVRs.

Tivo is a company that makes boxes to get sat programming and record at same time which allows you to pause the picture, rewind and fast forward it. It's what we call a Digital Video Recorder. Then Direct has his own tivos which are called DVRs and have more recording capacity and don't need phone line connected to operate.



The locals are different depending on the area you live, they all belong to the networks and there may be more than one from one same network in the same area. The channel number is determined by your zip code and the market. You can have access to your locals using an off air antenna on the roof or even the "rabbit ears" on the TV set.
