Do you believe that Americans will help others only if they can get something from you?

Your assumption that Americans are only interested in themselves is not supported by history.  Ask any French person who speaks French and not German what America demanded from France after World War II.  All America asked from France was a plot of ground to bury the dead Americans who gave their lives to free France from the n***s.  That is hardly the America you describe in your question.  (Study a little history.)
