American(field) Labradors VS. English(show) Labradors?

When it comes to purebred dogs, I'm a big fan of function over form.  The show line labs appear too bulky and heavy in the body to successfully do what labs are best at: hunt.  I don't know what english bench breeders are going for with their breed standard, but it's certainly not in hopes of breeding a dog that can be a good hunting companion in the field.

I prefer the American lab.  The english lab's legs are too short for my taste.

Fields! I think the AKC should recognize two versions of the labrador American & English. Because their are way different not only in body structure but also in disposition's. The English lab are far more aloof than the American fields.

English labs don't even look like they could do the job the were bred to do in the first place. 8(
