I can protect myself very well thank you.  No these guys are not for our protection, SWAT ( Special Weapons and Tactics) are for the execution of high-risk warrants.  They're also for counter-terrorism and high profile drug busts.  But their main job is to safely capture armed or dangerous criminals.  The law is not there to protect you, they're usually there to gather evidence and prosecute the criminal.  The first person responsible for your protection is you.  People could hire body guards, those are the only people who are specifically trained to protect an individual.  Do not confuse a SWAT officer with a body guard.
