  1. yes, I have rented a house on the southern coast near the city of Cork. I had a wonderful time . I spent a week there and then drove me and my family of 5 back to Germany.  On another vacation , I spent a week staying at Bed and Breakfasts while driving from Dublin on the east side To Galway on the west side.  I had a terrific time and get this - it didn't rain the whole week!!.

  2. I have always wanted to go to Ireland and the opportunity presented itself by staying at some friends of mine who live in a castle there.  They have been restoring it for years now and in the summer time it is busy with festivals and concerts.  The oldest oak tree in Europe sits on that property and I was enchanted from the time we landed in Dublin until the time I left.  We visited Cliffs of Moher,  Ailwee caves, Kylemore Abbey, and I got a chance to study my Irish roots too.  The people no matter where you go from small town to larger town are marvelous and very helpful.  I ended up going every year and now I stay most of the year there in County Clare in a little town near Shannon.

It is very stressless there and being able to travel around the country and see history actually still standing is just mind blowing.

The B and Bs all have something that is unique to that one B and B and the pubs are great.

I know volunteer at the castle every summer also and I help a friend of mine with his tour company in the summer too.

  3. I have been to Ireland numerous times.

I love it! And not only because my family has some Irish blood!

I actually like the Irish countrysides more than the larger cities, but that's just me. It's got such beautiful sites, the natural beauty. Plus it's chockablock full of history, some of it good, some of it bad.

I must say I think Dublin could do with a lot of improving in a number of areas. But it's still an enjoyable stop!

It's also great for backpacking, cycling and other such activites!

Hope to be there again next year!

  4. Yes!!!  We went in the summer of 2004!!  It was great!!!  We did a Bed and Breakfast tour. It was nice because we stayed in some great little towns and met the nicest people!!  Dingle was beautiful, from there we went to Kinsale,a quaint water town, then on to a a town south of Waterford.  From there we spent two days in Bray.  We took the the Dart line into Dublin. That was awesome!!  We then spent a day on the road up to Buncrana. Then down to Sligo.  Check out Parke castle.  That was a great tour! We then spent our last night in Abbeyfeale.  We cannot wait to go again!!!

  5. Yes.  And I loved it.  I'd move there if I could!  The people were friendly, the scenery was amazing, and the music was wonderful.  We spent all our time on the west coast -- landed in Shannon and and stopped in various places in Clare, Galway, Sligo, and Donegal (and also hit Leitrim on our way back down).  I recommend staying away from the more touristy things and heading for the rural areas that are off the beaten track.  We saw some really neat things that way.

Also, if you opt to get a car: get the SMALLEST car you can get (we got a Nissan Micra) and if someone is coming up behind you who is clearly driving faster than you want to, find a spot and pull off to the side of the road and let them go.  That really saved us a lot of stress.

  6. I loved the country and sea sides.  I also liked the smaller towns.  County Galloway and Dingle area were geat.  I loved the older areas.

  7. It was even more amazing then I had imagined it would be! My husband and I went there for our honeymoon 10 months ago. We couldn't have asked for a better place to go then there. The people we so welcoming and told the greatest stories! There were castles or some sort of historic ruin every where we went. Beautiful!

If you go there, I would recommend making sure that you have reservations for the first and last night that you are there and that you stay at bed and breakfasts the rest of the time. My husband and I rented a car and had a great time driving around & exploring the different "cities."

    Have fun!
