Question:

Americans. Why are you having such a poor Olympics? ?

Less than one Gold medal for every 10m people seems such a very poor return, especially given that you pump more money into sport than any other country.

What is your honest appraisal of how your team are doing?

  1. wow these people really dont follow the olympics good!

for the person that said that the US is leading the gold medal count, thats not true, seeing as china is. and for the one saying that they had 47 or something, also not true  china has 46 gold medals and the US only has 23, they're killing you guys, and for total medals the US have 79 and china has 76, they're only behind by two, so they're gunna end up killing you guys !

  2. Honestly, I think the US is doing fine.

What I find very funny though is the fact that the Olympics is meant to bring the world together in friendly competition, and yet all you can think about is ridiculing us for a certain amount of medals we have. Yes, this is a competition but it's also meant to be friendly. So what right have you to be going around asking stupid questions like this?

  3. technically it aint all that bad.  sure china is kickin our butts in the gold medal count(which in my opinion makes you first), but were still second. were doing our best and we have Michael Phelps(The greatest olympian ever, mind you) so i say so far its a great show.  oh! we also have basketball were killing in that sport.  so yeah its not that bad.  china's first but they have an advantage because their government supports them from the age of 3.  h**l, it would be bad if they werent first.  so go America! Keep trying!

  4. Nobody wins anything by having the most gold medals, except

maybe the opportunity to gloat.  And gloating is not a good

    quality to possess.

I've watched many olympics, and have never cared about the

medal count.  It's about individuals, representing their country,

training for years just for the opportunity to compete against

the best in the world.  A chance to "go for the gold", is just

as worthy a cause as to actually "win the gold".

The olympics are a source of inspiration and pride to millions

who watch their fellow countrymen (& women) compete at

    the highest level.

This is truly what the olympics are all about.  Not the medal count.

Watch a few more.  Maybe you'll finally get it.

  5. Currently we have a total of 54 medals with China trailing with 47. China has 27 gold medals and we have 16 gold medal. So I would we're doing pretty d**n good.

  6. To satisfy pathetic insecure people like you. Happy now?

  7. While it is true we spend a lot of money watching professional sports, and the professionals often get paid a lot of money, most of our olympic athletes are just ordinary people.  On the other hand, China for instance, takes babies away from their parents at age 3 to train them to be olympic athletes.  Most of our athletes have jobs they have to go to so that they can live.

  8. As an Australian, I'd actually like to come to the defense of the Americans.

You are only allowed to send a certain amount of athletes to the Olympics and if the U.S.A could send more they undoubtedly would win a lot more medals.

Having said that ...so would China.

As for being robbed, well unless someone can prove that the Chinese girls were underage, it sounds like a bad case of sour grapes which isn't very sportsmanlike at all.

Even if the Girls are underage - It only really makes their accomplishment all the more huge and special.

  9. that's because chinese athletes are too strong.

  10. You guys are really counting "gold's per capita" or something? Come on now....sounds like a BBC statistic.

Not counting silver and bronze medals is basicly saying they don't count for anything. If they didn't count, there would only be one medal winner for every competition held.....not 3.

Not sure why you're asking this considering we are still kicking your butts......no offence.

Just like a Brit to try and get off on a technicality!

That's why we have this saying, "put some english on it." It means, put a twist on it, or twist the facts to say something else.

We have 82 medals, of which 26 are gold so far.

The British have 37 medals, of which 16 are gold.

It's safe to say you won't be catching up any time soon. I'm really not trying to be a d**k, just pointing out the obvious.

Why compare apples to oranges? It is what it is. Yes, we have a much larger population, I know. That gives us an advantage.

GB has roughly 300 Olympic team members this year, and the U.S. has roughly 600. GB is not participating in as many events as the U.S.

I bet that if GB participated in more events, they would have a better shot.

Best of luck to team Great Britain.

  11. poor?

america produced the greatest olympian of all time...twice!

mark spitz and now michael phelps

    that isn't some poor accomplishment

  12. got the most medals, so what r u talking about, we medal more than your country so u have no room to talk, unless you live here then shame on you

  13. Hahahaha.  A Chelsea fan talking about pumping money into sport for limited returns!  Oh the irony...

  14. lmao? Does the truth hurt you Olympics illiterate? Shawn Johnson was robbed of 3 golds. NAstia Liukin the gold in uneven bars, and sacramone in the vault.

  15. I know you're just trying to rile Americans up, but you are being untrue.  They are ahead in the medal count, and China has even fewer medals per capita.

  16. I hate to sound like a poor loser, but in some of the judged competitions we got robbed.  Boxing this year (even though I don't think we would have won a gold there anyways) has been the worst officiated sport I've ever seen in the Olympics.  Also, we're getting Golds where it counts and not in weak competitions like badminton, ping pong, synchronized diving a c**p like that.

  17. We should really have 21 right now and china should only have 22... I want to know how many your country has?

  18. Because other countries are progressing and they can't stand it. GB is doing very well, I expected russia to be third, but GB is!

Yes Golds do decide the medal table. Only americans would say different.

  19. Ask NBC. It's not my money.

  20. I am Proud of Team USA regardless the amount of medals.

OO and your analogy is incorrect. It depends on the size of the team not the size of the country.

Now do it that way and what do you come up with?

BTW- The olympics are not yet over, we still have a week.

And seriously, you shouldn't be talking, we own GB in the olympics. And I support GB and Australia as well and I don't try to look for beef with anyone.
