Question:

Americans and the UK?

Why do a lot of Americans post questions about anything to do with Britain in the London section?

Don't they know that Britain is made up of not just one country and certainly not just one city?

  1. They don't, my friend. They don't. Some even think Paris is in England. (true)

I'm not making anything up. I've visited America loads and love the place and many of the people. However, the following are all actual questions I was asked by American adults:

'How come you speak English so well when you've only been here 3 weeks?'

'Are you guys, like, really at war with Ireland?'

After a confusing conversation in a bar I asked a woman to draw what she thinks Europe looks like. She didn't know the UK was an island, and she put Paris above London on a strange landmass that I didn't recognise.

    Sorry, but don't blame me.

  2. or that we all live in castles..cant move for castles in birmingham..

  3. Perhaps if you have a general question about Britain, there's some logic in asking it in the place where there's the highest population.

If I had a general question about the USA I doubt I'd seek an answer from Pacific City, Oregon.

Big up to the Pacific  City massive! Both of you!

  4. Ignorance. We aren't all like that, but sadly, the lot that are give us a bad name. And Step, why do you seem so bitter and enraged? You really give the English a bad name. I seriously doubt that you ever met anyone who thought Paris was in England. It seems you're really only concerned with being hostile and making up lies about Americans.

  5. Look at it this way.  The same could be said of someone who is not from America, and assuming every American is from California because that is all they know.  I've traveled to Europe and the South Pacific and I was asked one of two questions:  1)  Are you from California?, or 2) Are you from New York?  I would not be so quick to put us down whereas, based on my experience, people from Europe do the same thing to us.

  6. Who knows KB - at least we can't hear them asking the questions...

  7. Like us M8 ,we ask the Americans about  New York. They also, have other Cities.

That's the way it is. by the way I'm a Londoner and New York is a great City also

  8. because london is great. and it has the most in it

  9. Ive got American backgrounds and untill they moved to Wales they thought Wales was a region of England, but thats like saying New Jearsey is a region of New York so it silly how they think that. Why do they think it called the United Kingdom not just England its becasue theres more than just England, England is just the biggest area but it only accounts for half of Great Britains landsurface area theres 4 other areas of the U.K.

  10. they think we all live in quaint cottages and drink tea from china tea cups

  11. Yeah, I remember moving over to LA back in 1979 and the amount of times I was asked, 'do you come from London England?'. It's a lack of education is all.

  12. Who knows?? They're probably just regular people. The kind that don't travel a lot.

  13. i know i will get thumbs down for this but who cares.its because they are thick.i dont think half of them know who there own president is :-)
