  1. I tried to get my boss to follow this trend and he did not agree.  He sucks!

  2. It depends on the business.

I work in manufacturing. 3 shifts of 8 hours each covers the 24 hour day without having the shifts overlap.

One department went to 10 hour shifts for about a year. There were 2 shifts and 4 hours each day that the machines sat idle.

An idle machine is non prductive.

I have seen help wanted advertisement for a near by factory.

One week of 4 12 hour days followed by 1 week of 3 12 hour days.

    84 hours over two weeks.

I would be willing to go to 4 10 hour days but I'm sure that they would schedule mandatory overtime for the 5th day.

  3. I've been doing ten hour days for years, and I love it. I work every other weekend. Having every weekend off sucks after awhile, honestly. Especially during high vacation months. In a 2 week period, this is how my schedule works"

Work Monday & Tuesday. Go off Wednesday & thursday. Work Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Go Off Monday & Tuesday. Work Wednesday, thursday & Friday. Go off Saturday & Sunday.

I get every other weekend off and days off during the weeks inbetween. It's beautiful. During vacation periods, I can hit the shore on a Monday or Tuesday one week, then on Wednesday & thurday the following week. s***w those weekend crowds & traffic man. Also, going to the stores on weekdays is much easier as well.

If I had to go back to a Monday through Friday schedule, I would be miserable as h**l.

  4. I already put in a nine hour day five days a week.  I could use the time off.

  5. ha ha ha my employer moved us to a 4 day week ... cut us down to 32 hours that is... my income is taking a major hit...but we have to get our 40 done in 32 isn't that a kicker.  As soon as the economy picks up I am out of there..

  6. I think its a good idea, simply because  it will give everone a longer weekend.  now people take off  on friday or monday just so they can have a longer weekend, so whhy not have it without losing pay.

  7. We just switched to a 4/3/ work week. we work 4 12 hour shifts then have 3 days off, then come back and work 3 12 hour shifts and off 4 days. At first we didn't like it but now we love it and wouldn't want to change back to 5 days a week. it made us all notice what we had been missing out on in life and at home with children and loved ones.

  8. I'd say this is one good thing that has come from our sick economy.

There have been rumors of this for years. Most employees wanted it but the employers always always vetoed it.

I expect it will stick around but don't expect to get paid overtime for that "mandatory" 5th day.

  9. i can see that happening

with a quickly arising expectation 'to come in on friday too'

but dont you dare leave before 5 on mon-thu

  10. I'd love it.

  11. I think it'd be great.  Besides saving on gas, families need more 'together' time.
