  1. Yeah I live in Australia, and I always get confused in movies D:

  2. its been a while since i was in high school but i think......  Proms are close to the end of the year and its kind of a last dance before moving up..... homecomings are a football thing, they are normally right before or just after the last big game.....  winter formals are a dance during the winter, i dont know what its for...... and JA is a junior achivement dance, students are selected for doing well throughout the year and they get to bring a date and recieve awards.....  oh oh and military ball is for the kids in ROTC (a military class)

  3. homecoming

happens around the beginning of the school year

open to all grades in the high school

its very formal girls dresses guys suits

its a dance thats held the day after the schools first football game or the day before.

theres a thing called a homecoming court wich is a group of girls that the students select to vote for there queen.

uhm at homecoming theres dancing& refreshments  and the crowing of the queen is usually done at halftime at the football game either the night before or the night after. but at the dance they announce the queen..

    PROM!

is usually held anytime between april & june.

its normally held at a firehall or hotel..

    its very fancy

    its only for 11&12th graders.

they have a thing called promenade that happens before prom usually at the school auditorium where the couples walk out on stage and get there name called..

    then everyone goes to prom

theres danceing food and crowning of the queen

then the king and queen dance

then after prom many people have after prom parties..

prom is decorated so beautifuly it is truely a night to remeber..

    hope this helps :)

  4. prom is the most formal dance of the year. homecoming is a dance right before, right after, or on the night of the last home game of the season for the school's football team.

  5. Homecoming is a dance for all of high school- dressed up but casually- with dresses like this:

    http://www.nexteve.com/products/dresses/...

    http://www.fairytalebrides.ie/images/deb...

Homecoming is a better dance to wear short dresses at and takes place at the school.

Prom is beter for long dresses, more formal, only for 11th and 12 grades, and is usually (but not always) at a different spot- like a hotel.  Dresses like these:

Hair more done up and more accesories.

Also- for everyone saying homecoming is the dance before, during, or after a football game (or in the fall)- that isnt true. Usually its after a football game, but can sometimes be after a basketball game. Depends on the school! :-)

And it is usually a game against the biggest rival school.

  6. prom- only seniors or juniors towards the end of the school year

homecoming- all grades usually at the beginning of the school year

at my school we have turnabout which is just like homecoming in february and the girls ask the guys

  7. The difference is Prom is called PROM while homecomings are called HOMECOMINGS. Also homecoming are about football while prom is a formal dance we have before moving up.

  8. generally, homecoming is the conclusion of the football season early in the year.  a prom is at the finale of the year.

a prom is usually for sr and jr.  homecoming is for everyone.

  9. For my high school, homecoming was near the beginning of the year, and it was when we had our big football game against our rival school, then we had our homecoming dance that night, which was just an unformal dance.  sometimes alumni were also invited back to celebrate.

For our proms, it was a formal dance held near the end of the year where girls wore fancy prom dresses and guys wore tuxes.

Let me know if you have any more questions :)

  10. Homecoming is a big dance when the football team either plays at home for the first time or during a big game. By football, I mean American football with the pigskin egg shaped ball, in case you were wondering. Homecoming is usually in the month of October or early in the school year. (We start school in late august.)

Prom is at the end of the school year and is usually for seniors (12th grade, last year of high school/secondary school) to celebrate graduating. There is also a junior prom in some places. (For the year below) The end of the school year can be in May or June.

  11. Homecoming is usually during the fall football season. the reason it's called "homecoming" rather than "the football dance" is that homecoming is intended partially as an alumni event. Former students return to watch the festivities & the football game. It's an even bigger deal for current students, though, because of the dance (usually the first big dance of the year), the parade, and the Homecoming Queen contest.

In the high schools I attended, each class was responsible for putting together a float for the parade, and also responsible for decorating part of the gymnasium for the dance. So that took a lot of work in advance. The Friday night of Homecoming Weekend was the bonfire/pep rally on the field, and that was when the Homecoming Queen would be announced (people would have voted for her that morning in school). The Homecoming Parade would be Saturday afternoon, followed by the football game. The Homecoming dance would be Saturday night. It was usually a semi-formal dance in my day.

Prom is usually an end-of-year dance, it's formal, and it's usually restricted to juniors and seniors. Today the trend seems to be more toward renting a hall or other facility for the dance, instead of having it on school grounds. So they don't seem to decorate for Prom as much as we did in the 70s.

Kids also spend a lot more money on Prom than they do on Homecoming.

  12. Homecoming is in the fall and there is a parade and a football game and then a bonfire and anyone can go though there is a king and queen from each high school grade. Prom is in the fall and is just for 11th and 12th graders and is usually a really big deal.

  13. Homecoming is an event in the fall that is connected to high school or college football.  There is a homecoming game where alumni from the school are recognized etc. girls are selected by student body to be on a homecoming court and one is the queen. Then there is a homecoming dance. Usually pretty formal.  Dance is usually at school/college.

Prom is an event in the spring (April or May) and is usually for Senior High School students, some schools have a Junior/Senior Prom.  Very formal - girls wear evening gowns, guys wear tuxs. Many rent limos. Event is often at a hotel or country club.

Promgirl.com will show you gowns for both events.

  14. one subtle difference is homecoming is more casual and prom is formal

homecoming usually has a big football game during the same weekend

prom is like the closing of the school year
