Americans whistle hopes as Anthony Kim returns
They say that golf is for the laziest bums out there. Now, that might sound appalling for our distinguished golf players, who... oh well, have nothing else to do except to strike the ball, not worrying that it could land on the bald model standing far right. As crazy as it might sound, it’s cent percent true when it comes to the Americans. In a world that’s full of sprouting organizations and bustling corporate sectors; the simple game of hitting a ball with a stick seems like a heavenly pleasure. Golf, has come a long way, as the American nation regards it as a leisure game that helps them escape the frenzy of everyday life. The plain, yet, entertaining game of golf has a thick fan base, which follow the players with intense scrutiny.
But what an irony, year 2010 has not been an American golfers year. Just like the grappling economy of America, their golf tournaments have faced a recession as well which has followed till midyear. Many titles were won by non-American golfers and so were both the World Golf Championship Events. To add to the American agony, the British Open and U.S. Open were snatched by people non-native to this continent. Americans stood empty handed while the South Africans and English took away the crowns of Bay Hill and Memorial. Even the Aussies made their entry into the victory group with Adam Scott winning a title. However, thanks to the mighty Phil Mickelson, who acted as a saviour by capturing the Masters title. If, by any chance, a foreigner wins the PGA championship, year 2010 would be very similar to 1994 for the Americans. This would mark the second time with the Americans winning only one major title in a single year. However, there is some good news round the block...
Anthony Kim returns to save the American golf soul after his thumb injury in May. After finishing off his seventh Quail Hollow Championship, this is the second golf appearance by Kim in WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. In May, Anthony was in the front line of golf players. He won the Shell Houston Open and landed a third place at the Masters. But his gnawing thumb wound halted him from bringing further royals to the Americans.
The thumb required immediate treatment. Kim underwent a surgery and stayed out of the course for three months, which cost the Americans much loss. Now that he will be back, the residents of United States can hope for a brighter golf year. He will join the international golfers later this week for a tune-up for the PGA.
The head of the currently volatile American Ryder Cup Team, Corey Pavin is more than excited with Kim’s return. Since the team seems no more than the college boys trying to combat with the European Pros, Kim’s presence is sure to be felt.
So far, the American team has managed to win four victories out of eight in 2010. The team is full of novice players including Jeff Overton, who has not been able to win a single professional title. The valuable addition of Anthony will improve the leagues performance radically. With the upcoming event at Celtic Manor, the notable player will provide a sound foundation to his team. “He will not only give superior performance, he will also help in raising the teams’ morale,” says Corey Pavin.
The 25-year-old American player has had four professional wins, to date. In a short span of four years, Anthony has clearly become the pride of the American nation. Although being a relative newbie in the golfing arena, Kim has an impeccable aura, which golf enthusiasts are unable to ignore.
